In the year 2000, Jörg Breitenbach and Heiko Krumpholz, both from the Franconian Death/Thrash Metal Band Final Breath, launched the Up From The Ground Open-Air-Festival.

Even if there were little indoor events before known under the name UP FROM THE GROUND, we decided that the real calculation of time should start with the 1st Open Air. At this time the foundation and values have been laid, which still have influence on the event today.

As a result of hard-working and a steadily growing billing, assigned with more and more international leading lights of the scene, a little local event has become a national organised event, nowadays even the biggest extreme Metal festival in Franconia. Although, fair admission and other prices as well as the unique familiar spirit will be the essence of the festival in the future.
